'Art of Voting' Looms in Sri Sri’s Interactions in City (Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu)

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) was too inexperienced to lead the country and people should vote so that a strong and stable national government is formed, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar told journalists in the city on Thursday.

Earlier, at a Youth Leadership Meet, he said the present government had failed to intervene when the genocide of Tamils took place in Lanka. India could have prevented it. But the government did not act. “Could not India have prevented it?” Ravi Shankar asked the college students, who formed the audience. “Yes, Yes,” they agreed loudly in unison. Young people should also take a strong stand against corruption, he said. At the news conference, he said that a strong, stable single-party government should come to power at the Centre and not a weak coalition. “Whoever comes to power should have a good majority. Lack of majority should not result in policy paralysis,” he said. Asked about the AAP, he said it was too young a party to lead the country. “Let them perform well in one place, gain experience and then come to the national scene. It is too soon for a child to be put on a driver’s seat as it cannot reach the accelerator and the brake at the same time,” he commented.

If such young parties come to power, it would weaken the Centre and other countries would take advantage of this. No other country in the world wants India to be a strong nation. And the nation was now on ventilator - industrial output was falling, the growth rate being -2.5 percent. This was not a time for India to take chances or experiment with new ideas. “We want a strong government which can move the country upward. India has a very important role to play on the world scene,” he said. But a kind of apathy had taken hold of society, keeping people away from polling booths. “Faith in democracy needs to be reinstated,” he added.
