Art of Living Guru and founder of Sri Sri University, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar would grace the first convocation for the charter MBA batch of 2012-2014 of the university at the Mayfair convention centre in Odisha’s capital city on September 3.

The function would be attended by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, besides Higher Education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi.

The Sri Sri University Award for Excellence will be distributed to outstanding students on the occasion.

The convocation will also feature the launch of Sri Sri University’s Master of Arts Program in Good Governance by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

The two-year masters program aims to train young leaders in political, corporate, NGO, political and administrative governance.

The program is designed to create ethical and effective leaders who wish to participate in electoral politics, become CSR (corporate social responsibility) managers in the corporate sector, promote or manage civil societies or NGOs, aspire to become civil servants or public relations managers or join the policy think tank in governments, nationally and internationally. The event will also feature the launch of the Post Graduate Program in Financial Markets, a collaborative program with the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd which offers the program only in three other premier institutes in the country.

Speaking about the significance of the convocation at a press briefing here, vice chancellor of Sri Sri University Dr KC Mishra said convocation is full of symbolism. It is a ritual which proclaims the glorious inheritance and traditions of the University. Sri Sri University is dispensing with the regalia worn at the time of convocation as it is not a tradition having spiritual and cultural bearing.

“The first convocation of the university remains most nostalgic as it goes into the annals of history,” he added.
