On Angels

Infinity has diverse qualities, and specific qualities assume names. They are called angels.

Angels are simply rays of your Big Self. They are like your extended arms. They are there to serve you when you are centered. Like roots and stems and leaves that come out of a sprouted seed, all the angels in your life manifest when you are centered.

Like all the colors that are present in white sunlight, all the angels are present in your higher Self.

Bliss is their breath, dispassion is their abode. Angels rejoice in your company, but you have nothing to gain from them. They only come around those who have nothing to gain from them.

The bestower of dispassion is Shiva, that Consciousness that is bliss, innocence, and omnipresence. Krishna is the outer manifestation of Shiva. The inner silence of Krishna is Shiva.

Varying Hues of Human Perception | Sri Sri's Latest Blog Post

Human race is diverse, so too its cultures and belief systems. Though religion is born in a particular race and nation, today it has cut across boundaries of race and nationality. Although religion has maintained its own identity, it could not remain immune to the cultural influence of host countries. It is interesting to note that what is considered blasphemy in one religion is considered a matter of pride in another. For example, in Hinduism, playing the role of prophets and saints is considered a privilege. Every year Ram Lila and Krishna Lila are played across India and innumerable people dress themselves up to play the parts of Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Hanuman and others. In the Christian tradition as well, Nativity tableaus are performed and watched as a respectful tribute to Jesus. Many actors abstain from personal bad habits for the period of these roles. People even carry big crosses and retrace the steps of Jesus through the streets of Jerusalem to relive the crucifixion themselves. The basic concept is that when you imitate somebody, you imbibe their qualities.

By contrast, in Islam, imitating or playing such a role is considered blasphemy and an insult to the Prophet. In fact, music, sculpture, dance and painting were banned in puritanical Islam.

Spiritual leader, humanitarian and founder of The Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar visited Kolkata on Tuesday as citizens attended two events hosted by him in the city.

In the first event, held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar interacted with volunteers who had worked committedly under the umbrella of Art of Living's voter-outreach program, Volunteer for a Better India (VBI) to register new voters and also raise public consciousness on exercising one's franchise.

The VBI volunteers, drawn from a wide section of society, have been instrumental in registering over 3 lakh new voters across 15 States in India.

Addressing the large and enthusiastic gathering, Sri Sri encouraged his Volunteers in the morning session of the Volunteer Convention where he said, "Desh Bhakti and Dev Bhakti are the same so we should treat them equally as they are two sides of the same coin."

Partnering with the Election Commission, corporates, local-government officials and powered by housewives, students, busy IT professionals, entrepreneurs, scientists, housing colonies, and even little schoolchildren, the VBI's Voter Awareness Campaign (VAC) has succeeded in raising citizen's awareness about the importance of voting in a democracy and to accelerate voter-registration.

Apart from a media-interaction event in the afternoon, Sri Sri also led an evening of meditation, music and interacted with the public on various issues confronting the country, at a Mahasatsang held at Netaji Indoor Stadium open for public from 6pm - 8 pm.

Vote for the morally upright, says Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Art of Living founder and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said on Saturday that though it was not appropriate for him to favour a particular party, he said it was time to get rid of 'khhichdi sarkar'.

He said coalition governments in India have not been a good experience. He also appealed to people not to vote for corrupt politicians who offer bribes to woo voters. Speaking at a news conference in the city, Sri Sri said people accept bribes due to poverty. "But that is not a sin as a corrupt politician would only be giving prospective voters their own money, not his. So, even if they take money, they should not vote for such a candidate. This will nip corruption in the bud," he said.

Sri Sri also addressed around 1 lakh followers in the city in a satsang and exhorted them to vote for morally upright candidates. "I am here to ask voters to select morally upright candidates, not the corrupt. Parties give tickets to immoral candidates merely because they have a vote bank," he said.

He said people had lost hope with AAP. On Sonia Gandhi's recent meeting with Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari of Jama Masjid, Sri Sri said, "If leaders want to meet religious representatives, they should meet representatives of all religions, not as per vote bank."

He said people should elect the strongest candidate for the Prime Minister's post.

Country is on ventilator, we can't just sit and watch

"I don't want people to exercise the NOTA option during voting. I want them to vote decisively," said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at a press interaction on Friday. The spiritual guru is in the city as part of his four-day tour of the state to encourage people to come out and vote.

Stressing upon the compulsion of having a strong government at the centre and not a coalition, Sri Sri said the nation is hurtling towards disaster. "The country is on a ventilator. We can't just sit and watch. We have to educate people to vote for betterment and progress," he said. The spiritual guru, who has covered 518 villages in Vidarbha, said there was a need to boost the moral of farmers. "The recent hailstorms in Buldhana and other districts have devastated them. I feel spiritual figures can provide a healing touch."

Justifying the need for spiritual gurus to dabble in politics, he said, "Had the country not plunged to such depths, we would not have interfered with politics. It is the silence of the good that destroys a country."

Equating patriotism with devotion, Sri Sri added, "We only put the truth before the people and encourage them to follow the right path. As a founder of India Against Corruption (IAC), I have seen an eagerness and enthusiasm for change. This provides a glimmer of hope."

Stressing upon the need to keep away the corrupt and criminal from governance, he said, "Threatening opponents and hurling insults is not a fair game. Criminals get tickets as they have vote banks. I feel more than the legal system it is spiritual healing which our country needs today." The guru also advised the electorate to think twice before voting for novices. "The country is in no shape to experiment. The first timers should first pass the test by governing local bodies."

Terming the economy precarious, the spiritual leader said a weak government will lead to uncontrolled inflation. "The dollar rupee rate will rise to Rs100 unless a strong government is voted in. The image of the country has taken a tremendous beating after Nirbhaya episode. There has been a 30% fall in the number of female tourists visiting the country."
